Ed Pope Launches New Company:
“Super Carbon Composites Technologies” aims to revolutionize carbon-carbon composites.
(Westlake Village, CA, October 7, 2025) – Edward J. A. Pope, Ph.D., founder of MATECH 36 years ago, has launched Super Carbon Composites Technologies (SCCT). SCCT plans to commercialize Ultra-High-Density Carbon-Carbon (UHDCC) composites for the aviation, space, industrial, semiconductor, and automotive industries. At the foundation of the new company is the manufacturing of carbon-carbon composites with unrivaled high density and low porosity, the first monumental advance in carbon-carbon composites manufacturing in over half a century. SCCT combines carbon-carbon composites with Field Assisted Sintering Technology (FAST) to produce the world’s densest carbon-carbon composites ever demonstrated. This patent pending breakthrough promises unparalleled wear resistance, ablation resistance, and high performance for next generation carbon-carbon composites.
Already a $20 billion USD per year industry, the market for carbon-carbon composites could explode to over $100 billion USD per year in less than a decade with the added performance SCCT’s new technology. For investors, the beauty of SCCT’s business model is that it’s based on material that already exists. The existing carbon-carbon composite materials, however, still have significant challenges and limitations. SCCT’s goal is to remove those limitations and “unleash the beast that is at the heart of carbon-carbon composites,” states Dr. Pope.
Applications for SCCT’s UHD carbon-carbon composites include: 1) Wear Resistant CC Aviation Brakes. 2) Hypercar Automotive Brakes.3) Rocket Nozzle Throats.4) Hypersonic Missile Nose Tips. 5) Ballistic Reentry Nose Tips.6) Low Ablation Heat Shields.7) Furnace Heaters and Componentry.8) Semiconductor Processing Fixtures. 9) Heat Sinks in Hybrid Microelectronics. 10) Heat Spreaders in Cell Phones. 11) Fuel Cells.
About Super Carbon Composites Technologies:
Super Carbon Composite Technologies LLC is Dr. Pope’s newest startup company, leveraging two years of MATECH-funded IR&D and US patents pending. Current carbon-carbon composites are limited in their performance. SCCT’s readily implementable technology greatly improves performance. SCCT’s unique technology allows for straight-forward facile implementation of FAST/SPS densification. What makes this technology even more attractive to an existing carbon-carbon composite manufacturer is that it can be integrated into current production operations, thereby minimizing additional capitalization costs.
About MATECH:
Since founding MATECH in 1989 (36 years ago), Edward J. A. Pope, Ph.D. has pioneered the development and commercialization of over twenty-seven (27) state-of-the-art materials in the areas of optics, electronics, biomaterials, and high temperature ceramics and composites. Dr. Pope has successfully negotiated multiple multi-million-dollar intellectual property licensing transactions and previously launched three (3) other earlier startup companies.
